A child-resistant closure needs two different movements at once to open, so a young child cannot open it but an adult can. We manufacture child-resistant caps for glass jars, bottles and dropper bottles, squeeze-to-open pop tops and locking tins, as part of the pack they ship with. Our tested jar design meets US 16 CFR § 1700.20, and new designs can be tested for your project.
A closure is child-resistant when it passes a test with real children and real adults, not because of how it looks. It works by asking for two actions together, such as pushing down while turning, or squeezing while lifting, which young children cannot coordinate but adults do without thinking.
Child-resistant packaging in the US is regulated under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) and tested to the protocol in 16 CFR § 1700.20. The test is performed on the complete package: the closure on its container. It has two panels, and a pack must pass both.
Under the PPPA, the company that packages or imports the regulated product is responsible for compliance and issues the certificate of conformity, and it can base that certificate on the package's child-resistance and senior-adult test data. That is why the test report for your closure and container matters.
A closure that children cannot open but seniors cannot open either fails the standard. In Europe, reclosable child-resistant packages are tested to ISO 8317.
We make four child-resistant formats, each matched to the container it closes and the product inside it. Every one asks for two actions at once.

The outer cap only turns the inner cap when it is pushed down at the same time. For glass jars and bottles.

A push-down-and-turn cap built around a dropper bulb and pipette.

The lid opens only when the sides of the container are squeezed.

A tinplate case with a child-resistant locking lid.

A multi-layer gasket under the child-resistant cap, made with ATMOSIScience® fiber technology. It both absorbs and releases moisture to keep flower stable, without liquid packs or added salts, and is heat-sealed to the jar.
Our push-and-turn closures use the same child-resistant technique as our tested glass jar design, and test reports and certificates are available on request.
The standard specification, and what we tailor for each program. Mechanism, cap and seal are matched to your container and product at the sampling stage.
| Specification | Standard | Tailored per program |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Push-and-turn | CR dropper, squeeze-to-open pop top, locking tin |
| Container | Glass jar | Glass bottles, dropper bottles, pop-top containers, tins |
| Cap material | ABS outer cap, PP inner cap | Matched to the container in the set |
| Seal | Liner | 2-way humidity control gasket |
| Cap top | "Push down and turn" instruction | Logo printing |
| Test documentation | 16 CFR § 1700.20 test reports on request | Testing applied for on your closure and container |
| MOQ | 10,000 units per SKU on existing molds | Full-custom tooling quoted per project |
The two are often confused, and many packs need both: one keeps children out, the other shows whether anyone has been in.
Need both? A child-resistant cap can be combined with a heat-sealed liner or a tamper-evident label on the same pack.
Decoration changes the surface of a child-resistant cap, not its mechanism, so the cap can carry the brand like any other closure.
Discuss your color and finishChoose a finish
Cap matched to the container from a physical color sample, so the set reads as one set under store lighting.
Production, 10,000 sets 30 days for custom-color capsA matte, soft-touch cap, often paired with a frosted jar.
Frosting adds 5–7 days at samplingColors and gradients across the cap and the container, run on our own spraying lines.
Production, 10,000 sets 30 daysChrome, gold, rose gold or brushed cap finishes, matched from a physical sample.
Production, 10,000 sets 35 days for electroplated capsLogo on the cap top or side, alongside the "push down and turn" instruction.
Printing on caps adds 3–4 days at samplingAdded under the cap of a cannabis jar: it both absorbs and releases moisture to keep flower stable, without liquid packs or added salts.
Quoted per designChanges are made on existing tooling, drawn from more than 30,000 ready-to-use molds.
A tooling project: our in-house Mold Manufacturing Center builds a steel mold in 35–40 days. A new cap or container changes the package, so its child-resistance test is planned in.
Standard lead times for child-resistant closures, counted in days from receipt of vector artwork and payment. Your quotation confirms the timeline for your specification.
Request a timeline for your projectWhere your closure and container need a child-resistance test, it is scheduled at inquiry stage and included in the timeline. Full-custom tooling is quoted per project. Production files: vector artwork in AI or PDF format, plus Pantone references or physical color samples.

The questions buyers ask most before they specify a child-resistant closure. If yours is not here, send it with your product details and we will answer it against the real pack.
Ask about your closureA closure is child-resistant when the complete package passes the US test protocol in 16 CFR § 1700.20: at least 85% of children aged 42–51 months cannot open it without a demonstration and at least 80% after one, while at least 90% of adults aged 50–70 can open it and properly reclose it.
Test reports and certificates are available on request. Our glass jar with child-resistant cap, model J652, passed US 16 CFR § 1700.20 (Beide Compliance Laboratory, Shenzhen, report B-R181220669; applicant Guangzhou Jiaxing Glass Products Co., Ltd, a Jarsking Group company), and our other push-and-turn closures use the same technique. For your project, we supply the relevant report or apply for testing of your closure and container.
No. Under the PPPA, the company that packages or imports the regulated product is responsible for compliance and issues the certificate of conformity, which it can base on the package's child-resistance and senior-adult test data.
No. A child-resistant closure stops a young child from opening the pack and stays child-resistant when reclosed. A tamper-evident feature shows whether the pack has been opened. Many packs need both.
A push-and-turn cap for glass jars and bottles, a child-resistant dropper for oils and tinctures, a squeeze-to-open pop top for pre-rolls, flower and edibles, and a locking tin for pre-rolls and edibles.
Yes. Caps can be color-matched, frosted, spray-coated, electroplated and printed, because decoration changes the surface, not the mechanism. A new cap shape or container changes the package and needs its own test.
MOQ is 10,000 units per SKU on existing molds. A custom-color cap sample takes 15–20 days, and production of 10,000 custom-color caps takes 30 days, counted from receipt of vector artwork and payment. Where your closure and container need a test, it is added to the timeline.
